Your Birthstone Ring
Each month grants us all with a specific birthstone. Whether we adore or hate our particular stone, we're pretty much stuck with it for life. The good news is, there are a variety of stones to choose from. If you don't care for your month, you can always pick a different stone. Birthstone
rings are becoming more popular these days, and not just diamonds.
Birthstone rings offer a wonderful variety when searching for that perfect gift for a loved one. In my experience, people enjoy having their stone set in a ring. It breaks us from the norm of mundane jewelry we often encounter in the malls and department stores, and in many occasions, sells for a more reasonable price.
Many folks these days are turning to birthstones as a baby shower
gift. Due to the price involved often a couple of friends and/or
relitives of the new mom will join together in purchasing a
pair of rings with a matching setting using the new baby's
birthstone. I am one of those who decided
to take a chance with the birthstone setting. When I first
began my search for the perfect ring for my wife to celebrate
the birth of our first baby, I immediately looked to diamonds.
After days of searching the web for that perfect platinum ring
with the ideal, yet uniquely cut diamond, I found myself lost
in a maze of generic looking jewelry. Fortunately I came up
with the idea of a birthstone for the month our baby was due.
Afterwards I thought to myself, why didn't I think of this
sooner. The first step was to find out our daughter's (yep
we cheated lol) birthstone. In reality I only knew my own.
Once I discovered her birthstone was Aquamarine, I immediately
hopped on my computer, since I've yet to see a selection that
can beat the Internet, and searched for birthstone rings. In
no time, sites such as ice.com and bluenile.com were popping
up like crazy.
After finding that special ring, designed exactly the way I desired,
but with a much smaller price than the diamonds I had previously
reviewed, I was stoked. Virtually any cut you prefer on the
band of your choice is available. A variety of complimenting
stones are also an option, to set off the birthstone. The result
was a pristine, trillion cut, Aquamarine, surrounded by diamonds
and white gold. This ring worked beautifully, my lady was not
only shocked, but also pleased at the distinct, yet stunning
look of her ring. She gets compliments all the time. When our
daughter gets a little older we plan to purchase a matching
Aquamarine Birthsone Ring for her.
Your Birthstone is as personal
to you as your name. For that reason it is very difficult to
asing a single stone to a paticular month. This is the reason
that the "common Birthstone" has
changed stones over the years. The fallowing chart will give
you a varity of choices from modern to the stones of over 1000
years ago.
So why is there 4 different lists? Well Birthstones
have been changed over the years and acoording to different
beliefs. Therefore we have given you the four most commonly
accepted birthstone listings:
- Modern - This list is from the National
Association of Jewelers and was created in 1912. Tanzanite
was added to December in 2002 by the American Gem Trade Association.
This was done to give consumers a larger choice in stones
for December.
- Traditional - Is derived from the 12 stones
on Aaron's breastplate, as told in the book of Exodus in
the Old Testament. It can be traced back as far as the 15th
century.
- Mystical - Not much can be found about this list. The only
thing that seems certian is that it was found in a book that
originated in Tabet and is over 1000 years old.
- Ayurverdic - This is often thought to
be the originl Birthstone list. It comes from Ayurverdic
Indian Medician from anciant India. This list goes as far
back as 1500 B.C.
